Vista

The Stone Door area of South Cumberland State Park is one of my favorite quick and easy backpacking destinations.  Located in Beersheba Springs, Tennessee, this area of the park has a number of trails that lead to great campsites with fantastic scenery along the way.

View From Alum Gap

My favorite destination in this area of the park is the Alum Gap campsite.  There are about a dozen individual campsites at Alum Gap, several of which are located on the edge of the bluff that overlooks the gorge. It's nice to wake up to a view like this.

Sunset

There are three trails from the Stone Door ranger station that lead to Alum Gap ranging from about three miles and easy to about six miles and somewhat difficult.

Lower Greeter Falls

This area of the park has some fantastic water features. A number of waterfalls near Alum Gap offer great opportunities for quick excursions  from camp. This view of the lower part of Greeter Falls requires a climb down a spiral staircase which drops you into a spectacular amphitheater and swimming hole.

Upper Greeter Falls

Stone Door gets its name from a large crack in the face of a bluff that offers access from the rim to the gorge and was a popular travel route of Native Americans.

Boardtree Falls

Stone Door is also a popular destination for rock climbers.
