Store-Bought Meals

Mountain House

Mountain House makes some of the best freeze dried foods available. They offer entrees, breakfasts, vegetables, snacks, desserts and even have a vegetarian line up. Most of their meals simply require boiling water to be added to the product pouch which makes them really quick and convenient.

New Product

Mountain House has dozens of freeze dried meals to choose from. I just tried two items they've recently introduced, Chicken Fajita Filling and Chicken Salad and they're both fantastic!

Another New Product

The Chicken Salad is a cold water meal so there's no boiling needed. Like all Mountain House freeze dried products, you can eat right out of the pouch so there's also no cleanup involved.

Zatarain's

If fuel rationing and cleanup aren't an issue, Zatarain's has a product line that's great for backpacking. Though not as convenient as freeze dried meals, pre-packaged Jumbalaya, Gumbo, Red Beans and Rice and Creole are just a few items they offer that make great dinners after a long day on the trail. I usually add summer sausage or a chicken pouch to these for a full blown meal.

Knorr

Knorr also makes a variety of products that work well for backpacking if you don't mind cooking and cleanup. Chicken or tuna pouches go well with these also.

 Meat Pouches

These make a great addition to many meals.
