Frozen Head State Park
Sunset on Frozen Head Mountain
Located in Wartburg, Tennessee, Frozen Head State Park is home to one of the highest peaks in the state outside of the Smoky Mountains. With elevations reaching 3,324 feet, this park offers some amazing views across the Cumberland Plateau. The Smoky Mountains can be seen from this peak on extremely clear days.
Frozen Head Lookout Tower
This tower sits atop the highest point in Frozen Head. Accessible only after a brisk hike up the mountain, the views it affords are worth the effort.
Waterfall
A really cool system of streams, creeks and waterfalls snake through much of the park.

Sub-Zero Camping
We decided to test our cold weather backpacking limits and climbed the mountain for a few days when record low temperatures were forecast. Temperatures reached several degrees below zero fahrenheit on the coldest night of the trip . The fire was certainly our friend.
Glorious Heat
There are over 80 miles of hiking trails in this park. We've explored many of the 20 trails here, and are never disappointed.
Chimney
This chimney is all that remains of an old home site near the Mart Fields campsite.

Spring
Several upper elevation sites in Frozen Head have small springs as water supplies. These can be a bit unpredictable at best, especially in drier weather.
